The admissions process is designed to ensure equitable and open access to the Moton Charter School and mirror the demographics of the Orleans Parish Public School System. Most importantly, admission to the Moton Charter School is designed to create a verbal agreement between the student, the parents/guardians and the school, with each entity making a commitment to the values, policies, expectations and achievement-based objectives which define the schools educational and social integration process.
Attendance Area/Residency Requirements
The Robert Russa Moton Charter School is open to all students residing in Orleans Parish. The admissions process is designed to ensure open access, and, at the same time, introduce prospective students to the values, environment and expectations of the institution.
Admissions Requirements
Admission is open to all school age students residing in Orleans Parish, regardless of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, national origin, intellectual ability or exceptional status. Re-admission is not guaranteed and may also be denied based on recommendation of the disciplinary committee.
Enrollment priority for siblings of students already enrolled in the charter school will only apply to siblings when space is available on the requested grade level.
The Moton Charter School will meet the at-risk enrollment requirement by ensuring that their population is reflective of the population that currently exist in the New Orleans Public Schools district. We will continue to meet the at-risk enrollment requirement (LAR.S.17:3991(B)(1).
Admission will only be granted upon confirmation of enrollment from NOLA Public School’s Enrollment Office. Students will not be admitted unless EnrollNOLA has granted admission/transfer. On-site registration is a violation of Orleans Parish School Board’s Enrollment Policy, and registration will not be granted until notice has been received for the Enrollment Office.

Once placed at Robert Russa Moton Charter School, the following documents are needed to register your child/children:
- Birth Certificate (birth cards or letters are not accepted)
a. Legal Proof of Guardianship required, if not the parent of student. - Immunization Record
- Social Security Card
- Proof of Residence (2 forms)
a. State issued Photo ID, Driver’s License, Utility Bill, Voter’s Registration Card, Homestead exemption form, Property tax bill - Report Card for students registering for grades 1st-8th.
a. Last grade’s final report card (for grade placement) - Standardized Tests Scores
All needed documentation must be provided at time of registration. There is limited space and vacancies are not available for all grade levels.
PRE-KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Pre-Kindergarten registration must be done through the Oneapp process at enrollnola.org. All Pre-Kindergarten students must be 4 years old by September 30th to be eligible to attend school.

All new registrants at the Moton Charter School should have a registration form, an emergency contact form, health/immunization records, a birth certificate, a social security card, proof of residency in Orleans Parish (at least two documents verifying proof). Documentation to verify proof of residency in Orleans Parish must be provided. Acceptable proofs of residency are inclusive of State of Louisiana Driver’s License/Identification Card, utility bill, telephone bill, current lease, vehicle registration, and voter’s registration card. Immunizations and tests mandated by state and local law shall be required of all students. Any exceptions shall be approved by the Head of Agency.
Age of Entrance
A child who reaches the age of five years on or before September 30th shall be eligible to enter Kindergarten at the opening of the session in which he/she attains the age of five years.
A child shall be eligible to enter the First Grade at the opening of the session if he/she has attended mandatory Kindergarten and reaches the age of six years on or before September 30th.
Exceptions to the Kindergarten entrance age requirements may be permitted in cases where a child has been evaluated by a licensed psychologist and judged to be socially, emotionally, and intellectually capable of profiting from early entrance.
A child who transfers to a public school from a non-public school must meet the minimum age requirements established by the public school system.
If a child, upon transfer, is below the minimum age requirement established by the public school system, the Board is not obligated to accept this child within its school system.
